A Sunday in Salzburg
Now reporting from the smallll Salzburg Airport. It’s officially less than one week left until I head home from journey. Can’t believe it’s already to that point. There were times when it felt like I had been gone a while within the trip but mostly it’s flown by. When you are moving place to place every few days and walking miles and miles seeing fascinating historic sights on a regular basis, time disappears quickly. It’s a good sign to me though, it means I’ve gotten a lot out of the trip. I was fully engaged throughout whether that was trying to learn things or just pure entertainment and adventure.
Speaking of that let’s lock back in to Salzburg before the final leg in England. I will have time when I get home to think and write on all of the ideas these experiences have given me. We spent the whole sunny Saturday outside. That was key since it was a bit colder and wetter from that night on out. The Hohensalzburg Fortress was the first thing we walked to see.

It’s always cool to see the extremely old architecture in the European cities and this was from a similar timeframe to the Old Town Ibiza castle. It was constructed in 1077 and also similar to the one in Ibiza, built into a steep hill. The natural defence advantage. We also walked through St Peter’s cemetery next to it which is one of the oldest cemeteries in Europe (mom you’d love it).

We had enough of the Bavarian food for a day so we went with a switch up to an Italian place called Sto Bene for a couple artisan pies. The rain started while we were in there and we walked around for some fantastic gelato afterward, calling it an early night post-travel day.
Woke up firing and we did find an open coffee shop and then we stumbled upon a strange sight in the main square of the city. We walked up to a Red Bull orchestrated street soccer tournament where they were blasting music and would be playing games all day.

We were planning on going to church at the old Dom Zu Salzburg Cathedral and still did at 10 am (shout out mom again you would appreciate that). I’ve never seen such a large production for a mass, they had a full 7 piece band with electric bass and guitar, drums, and then a full choir on the other side. TV’s all around showing the pastor preach, and there wasn’t an open seat in the house. I’ll be honest we didn’t stay for the whole thing but it was definitely a scene.

We checked out some catacombs quick in the mountainside and then took in the red bull 4 to score final for another few hours. Stopped and got some Vietnamese food that was phenomenal before heading back though.

Fun fact red bull was started in Austria by a crazy Austrian with a hangover. We hit all the main sights but with the weather didn’t venture out of town anywhere.

We thought we found a place to catch the birds again, funny enough called Bada Bing Sports Bar (yes named after the Sopranos one). The Hungarian bartender was a character and she did not have very good English.

The closest she got us was to NFL redzone which we settled for on a Sunday and Salzburg with limited options. Of course it brought other Americans from Denver, Salt Lake City, and Detroit out and the whole crowd was basically American. Good juxtaposition with us all struggling to communicate with the bartender. Tough L, we grabbed some more quality coffee this morning and are excited for the last leg in the UK, weather is looking great.
