Yo I'm Back
Yo yo yo. Bet you thought i was gone forever.....but i'm back in a different climate, different country, with a different type trip altogether. I'm coming to you live from the beautiful jungle beach town of Nosara, Costa Rica 🤙. This time I'm staying in one place for the whole length of the trip, 30 days. If ya don't want to hear about the goings-on and my strange observations in this central american gem feel free to tune out right now.

Flew in yesterday from a temp of 30ish degrees in Newark to 92 when I landed at Liberia airport. I sat next to an older couple on the flight from Calgary originally, that had moved to Playa Hermosa 23 years ago and started a contractor business. Sounds like they love it here, but were sad to come back because they were leaving family after a “vacation” to Washington DC and New York. Not exactly the destinations on my list but to each their own and family over all.
Took a shuttle van from the airport for a 2 and a half hour ride along all kinds of crazy roads through small towns in the interior of the country, jungles, small bridges and eventually made it to the coastline. It was far from a straight shot but an adventure in its own right. My guy Luis had a "classic" vehicle with 350k miles on it and ge didn’t speak any English, but I had him help me brush up some spanish halfway through the ride. The interior of the country is poorer and the huts and shacks that are their colleges and schools is a perspective-shifter. They still got Papas in the house though!!!

He said he has 5 kids and his wife also drives for the same company making "muchos viajes por dia". We stopped by in his home town Nicoya and dropped his wife a sandwich van to van as her group took a stop to get water. Towards the end it was dusty gravel roads and behind 2 eighteen wheelers it makes for some tough sledding. You could tell he was a seasoned driver on these routes making all the passes on glorified one lane roads comfortably through the dust.
I got dropped off right at the restaurant that i'm staying behind and a dude at the bar led me to my spot. It was ready to go and has all i need, including a giant brita which i will be constantly refilling with nice, cold water. Going to be much better than Ibiza and Europe in that respect. Agua.

The restaurant was closed from 3 to 5 for siesta time and I was starving so I ran over to the market and grabbed a steak, eggs, onions, and cheese and whipped up a meal making due with the kitchen equipment.

I walked the private jungle town for a little around sunset but I wanted to get my bearings in the light and was dead tired after the plane and 2 car rides. A lot of pura vida from the locals for every transaction and interaction. I need to step my game up in the Pura Vida category it's a natural reaction for everyone else. I have 3 girls next door that are young Americans and it's nice to have some familiar voices next door, but I’ll be practicing my spanish throughout the trip for sure.
BEAT, I went to bed early at 830ish CT as was the 4 hours of sleep the night before caught up to me. I slept almost straight through to 6 and feel a million times better today. I’ve been active early out of the house before 7 and walked to the playa guiones beach for the first time. Stopped on the way for local coffee. Some of you know i'm a coffee snob and the Costa Rican beans live up to the hype, shout out Rolling Waves cafe.

So many surfers at every beach, and i'm going to be one of them by next week. Stay tuned for my personal surfing boot camp. It's going to be a BATTLE I can tell you that much. I know absolutely zero about surfing except one attempt in San Diego over 5 years ago and my body will take a minute to adjust to this temperature change/the sun in general. Excited for the struggle, wish i could record the amount of failed attempts.
They have a nice little beach trail that goes from break to break and today was also the farmers market in town so I stopped by that.

Grabbed some fresh fruits and veggies, talked to a couple nice people there and headed back on home. Peace and I'll check back in when i feel like it!!!!!
